The Hidden Crisis in Kenya
A Silent Humanitarian Crisis
Across Kenya, thousands of elderly parents are quietly suffering from dementia and other memory-related conditions. Yet for many families, the condition is misunderstood.
In some communities, dementia is mistaken for stubbornness, madness, or even curses. Because of this lack of awareness, elderly parents are often left without the medical care, understanding, and dignity they deserve.
Many families struggle alone, overwhelmed by the emotional and financial burden of caring for a loved one whose memory is slowly fading.
Some elderly people wander away from home.
Some forget how to eat or care for themselves.
Some live in silence, confused about the world around them.
This is not just a health issue — it is a humanitarian crisis that remains largely invisible.
Mercy Hand Kenya Trust exists to shine a light on this hidden disaster and to stand with families who feel forgotten.
We believe that every parent deserves compassion, dignity, and respect in the final chapters of their life.
Restoring Dignity, One Life at a Time
At Mercy Hand Kenya Trust, every act of compassion creates real change.
Through the support of generous donors and volunteers, we are reaching vulnerable elderly people living with dementia and supporting the families who care for them.
Our work focuses on restoring dignity, improving daily living conditions, and ensuring that no elderly parent in Kenya is forgotten
From Pain to Purpose: The Story of Ambassador Kimkim
From Pain to Purpose: The Story of Ambassador Kimkim.
For five long years, from 1990 to 1995, Francis Mwatha Kimani lay in a hospital bed. He was battling a terrible disease called Chronic Osteomyelitis. While his body was weak and broken, his spirit was watching. He watched his mother struggle to care for him, and he saw the heavy burden placed on parents everywhere.
It was in those dark hours of sickness that God opened his eyes. He saw a painful truth: so many elderly parents die because there is no one to look after them. In that moment of suffering, Mercy Hand was born.
A Mission of Dignity
Today, Francis is known as Ambassador Kimkim, a man sent from God. He was born in Ruiru, Ol Kalou, but his heart belongs to the forgotten. He carries a deep passion for those suffering from dementia and the elderly who have been left behind without food, blankets, or shelter.
He believes every parent deserves profound dignity. When he meets the elderly to bring them food, miracles happen. People are healed by the power of God because he serves with a heart of pure love.
The Power of Faith
Ambassador Kimkim may not have a formal education, but he possesses a wisdom that books cannot teach. He believes:
Faithfulness: We must be true to one another to see God’s blessing.
Humbleness: To lead is to serve others in truth.
Ability: God sends us into this world with everything we need to succeed if we only trust Him.
Unity: We are stronger together, and without unity, there is no blessing.
A Message to the World
He travels far and wide to share one great reality: The Kingdom of God is within you. He teaches us to love one another, support one another, and live in the truth.
Ambassador Kimkim is more than a leader; he is a representation of Christ’s love for humanity. He proves that no matter where you come from or what you have suffered, if you know your God, you can change the world.
”Let us love not just with words, but with truth and action.”
Our approach
The Difference We Are Making
Supporting Families
Many families caring for parents with dementia face emotional and financial strain. Mercy Hand Kenya provides essential support that helps caregivers continue their journey with strength and hope.
Providing Essential Supplies
We distribute adult diapers, blankets, clothing, and other necessities to ensure elderly people can live with comfort and dignity.
Fighting Hunger
Through food baskets including unga and other staple foods, we help families struggling to meet the daily needs of their loved ones.
Spreading Awareness
Ignorance about dementia remains one of the biggest challenges in Kenya. We conduct community forums and awareness campaigns to help people understand that dementia and Alzheimer’s are medical conditions that require compassion and care.
Message from Ambassador Kimkim
A Message of Compassion and Hope
“At Mercy Hand Kenya Trust, we are driven by a simple belief: the strength of a society is measured by how it treats its most vulnerable.
Every day we meet families who are struggling to care for parents living with dementia. These parents once worked hard to raise their children and build our communities, yet today many of them suffer in silence.
It is heartbreaking to see a parent who raised us now living in confusion, fear, and sometimes indignity simply because society does not yet understand this illness.
Mercy Hand Kenya was created to bring compassion where there is suffering, awareness where there is ignorance, and dignity where there is neglect.
Together with partners, donors, and volunteers, we are determined to ensure that no elderly parent in Kenya faces dementia alone.
I invite you to stand with us in this mission of mercy.”
